No caring and conscientious owner wants to think about the possibility of their pet being lost or stolen. Unfortunately, statistic shows that around 1 in 3 pets become lost at some point during their lifetime, and approximately 10 million cats and dogs are stolen or lost in the U.S every year.
Lake Emma Animal Hospital is committed to helping reunite owners with their pets, so we recommend and offer microchip implantation and scanning service. Microchipping is inexpensive, relatively painless, and tamper-proof—it can’t be removed or lost like collar tags.
The microchipping procedure involves the insertion of a tiny microchip, about the same size as a grain of rice, under your pet’s skin. In fur babies such as cats and dogs, this is usually placed between the shoulder blades. However, if you have a pocket pet or more exotic animal, the location of this microchip may differ.
If you find a lost pet, we offer scanning services to help identify the pet’s owner so the animal can be returned. Each microchip contains a unique reference number that refers to an individual entry on a secure database that is maintained by the microchip provider. We can contact the provider to let them know that the pet has been found, or they will contact you to make you aware that your pet has been recovered.
